The auto accident involved a married couple from out of state that was visiting relatives at the time. The wife has been in a coma since the crash.

During the Jan. 29 crash, the couple's Oldsmobile Bravada came to rest between two tractor-trailers, lying perpendicular to the flow of traffic. According to him, someone should lose his or her job.

Suit filed over death of boy after bus accident

Parents in Florida often believe that their children are safe when riding the school bus. In one case, it was not until a 6-year-old boy actually exited the bus when he got injured. After exiting the bus, the boy was run over by it while attempting to cross the street. He was knocked to the ground by the front of the vehicle and a rear tire ran over him.

The young boy was killed in January 2011. The criminal case has come and gone but now the boy's parents have filed a wrongful death suit against the school district.

Accident with dump truck leaves two injured

An accident in Largo, Florida has left two people severely injured. One of them is the brother of the individual that was injured while driving with the son of famous professional wrestler, Hulk Hogan, in August 2007. According to reports, alcohol was not a factor in the more recent accident.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that two individuals, both 24-years-old, were driving in a 1994 Volvo earlier this month. The younger brother of the injured individual from the 2007 crash was the only passenger in the vehicle. Around 2:30 a.m., the Volvo and its occupants were approaching the intersection of U.S. 19 and Ulmerton. Upon entering this intersection -- reportedly while speeding -- the car crashed into the back of a dump truck.

Cigarette makers look to Supreme Court for review

A 2006 ruling by the Florida Supreme Court has given many families the ability to sue U.S. tobacco companies after their loved ones have passed away. The decision involved a statewide class action suit and a $145-billion punitive damage verdict against tobacco companies. Both of those were thrown out by the state Supreme Court.

Though both were thrown out, jury findings in the case including that the companies were guilty of negligence, sold defective products and conspired to hide information about the dangers of smoking were all endorsed by the court. This ruling is known as the Engle decision and it has been used in other suits hoping to find tobacco companies liable for wrongful death.

Florida crash leaves man dead, woman awaiting arraignment

A 77-year-old woman has been charged with killing a motorcyclist in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is a retired teacher and grandmother from out of state that was staying in Florida for the month of March, having rented some property with her boyfriend of 14 years.

According to police, alcohol was a factor in the fatal accident which happened on St. Patrick's Day. In the crash, the 77-year-old was driving a 2012 Chevy van that was likely rented by her after her boyfriend had returned home a week earlier. The woman was driving in the northbound lanes of Oceanshore Boulevard around 9 p.m. when she crossed into the southbound lanes.

A Florida accident from 2010 is in the news again. According to prosecutors, a 48-year-old man crashed into the vehicle of a 23-year-old recent college graduate on the night of Feb. 12, 2010. The 23-year-old male was heading to see his family when the 48-year-old drove his Bentley into the other driver's Hyundai.

Train and truck carrying fuel collide, fire burns for hours

In Bartow, Florida, a serious accident has taken one life. The truck accident occurred earlier this month around 10 a.m. just off U.S. Highway 60 near Bonnie Mine Road, a quarter mile away west of the scene in Ashland Chemical. The tractor trailer involved was carrying a load of diesel fuel and was hit by a CSX train as it crossed the tracks.

There are no gates at the railroad where this accident happened. According to officials, they are not required because the crossing is on private property. If this is the case, trains approaching the crossing should sound their horns twice, as a warning to drivers that may be in the area. The first horn is a short blast and, as the train approaches the intersection, it lets out the second horn, which should be a much longer one.

Suit filed against police for not arresting intoxicated driver

A suit filed against a police department in Boca Raton, Florida will not be pursued further. This is not because the plaintiff no longer wants to file the wrongful death suit; it is because an appeals court ruled that the police no longer had any responsibility towards the deceased at the time of his death.

On Sept. 21, 2007, a 24-year-old man from Deerfield Beach, Florida had gone to a Florida Marlins game. There, he allegedly drank several beers and later met his cousin at a bar in Boca Raton. Around 1:30 a.m., the bartender there cut him off, refusing to serve him any more alcohol.
